To cut large strips of ceramic tile or cut 45 degree pieces, the best and quickest way is by using a tile cutter. To cut or "break" tile, simply put the tile on the padded bed, against the stopping frame. Press the handle down firmly, and roll the carbide wheel along the tile, to score the glaze.
